Why do people like law professor Frank Buckley make hostile racist comments/posts only to turn around and tell us that he is not racist and supports the principles of inclusion and respect?  Does he really expect anyone to believe that?  Is this just a "cover your ass" maneuver because he fears retribution from his employer or blow back from colleagues and students?  Rushing to delete a tweet does not erase the sentiment behind it... and it doesn't really delete it either because the tweet was screen captured and widely shared.

He's scared.  There is nothing unusual here.  This belongs on the cancel culture thread.

A lot of people don't realize that nobody ever faced blowback for public comments before 2018.

He made a dumb unprofessional comment and is now being called out on it. That has been going on since the first caveman wrote "Thag is a putz" on a wall.

Spewed coffee with that one!!!!
Come, fill the Cup, and in the fire of Spring
Your Winter-garment of Repentance fling:
The Bird of Time has but a little way
To flutter--and the Bird is on the Wing.

Well, that's true enough, but social media does often seem to make these things bigger and uglier than they often would have been.
For our light affliction, which is only for a moment, works for us a far greater and eternal weight of glory.  We look not at the things we can see, but at those we can't.  For the things we can see are temporary, but those we can't see are eternal.

Sure, but that's because this guy would have just made this "joke" to some of his colleagues in the copy room and while they might have found it pretty repulsive and told a few people about it, it wouldn't go out into the wider world. Twitter isn't like email. You can just decide to not share your "edgy" jokes with people you will never meet. It isn't mandatory to have an active twitter presence, and if you do, you can be reasonably circumspect about what you share there.
