Marking done, gonna try to cram all my notes into a document.

Not done, but did enough to start the review.
I know it's a genus.

Parasaurolophus

Finished typing up my notes real fast. No more work today. Probably none much tomorrow, either.
I know it's a genus.

I finished (mostly) building my student's experiment today. Basically worked great, except for one glitch I couldn't track down. I emailed the software's research support account with a copy of the experiment file and a description of the problem, and within two hours they'd not only explained what I'd done wrong, but also offered some advice on other things in my experiment file that could be improved.

This software is not cheap, and it's not easy to use, but I have to admit that they offer absolutely stellar customer support.

That's both cool and very unusual...having sat on the line numerous times with internal IT folks for my (then, own job's) IT CS/R&D who didn't seem to know much more than I did about stuff it was their JOB to know!

My check-in:

Meeting this AM, then lunch....then....

Got side-tracked by the J6 committee's second half.

Student in an hour, there's one short thing I can do now to keep things on track, so that's next.

No folk dance tonight, so I will do some catch-up after teaching.

Back on track in the AM, I think.

1. Download photos, file, and categorize for next two papers.
2. Read more for book review, more notes, more text.
3. Go through article findings for Article B, sent several to myself, just have to type up the notes.

There's probably more but that'll do for now.

I'm mildly optimistic that I might get a little book reviewing done much later today.
I know it's a genus.

mamselle

Got the photos nearly done.

Student shortly.

More work later, since he'll be done early today.

Yea....ouch!

Does one re-submit an essay in your field, or was that a one-time thing?

M.

I could probably submit elsewhere. My coauthor had another journal idea in mind, but I just got back from the conference and had not taken a look at it yet.

As for other news, I have accepted many reviewer requests lately, but one of the journals asked me if I would do two at the same time because a manuscript came in that is on a very similar topic to one that I just published. Yet I did not know it was published almost a month ago! I knew it was accepted but the email said to wait for a proof. So I just realized I had an article come out a month ago which is exciting but kind of anticlimactic. I also told the editor to ask my coauthor (who is the first author) since hu is the true expert on this topic if they can have a guest reviewer. I have the other reviews plus several students sent me dissertation chapter drafts so I am already busy.

Bragging of the most shameless variety (you've been warned):

My sabbatical ends today. It was delicious -- I got to write to my heart's content (and for me, that's a lot). It was like when I was working on my dissertation, except without the pressure of finding a job at the same time.

What'd I write?

I finished the three book manuscripts I had started, and one has been through the review process (and is coming out in February).

I submitted three articles (two in my second language, one in my first). The two in my second language were both accepted (and one is even out), while the last one is going through the R&R process.

I have three students (1 PhD, 2 MA) who are about to defend their theses (successfully, too, I suspect).

I'm gonna miss my sabbatical, and I've already committed to more committee work than I normally would (mostly to thank my colleagues who took on my tasks while I was gone), but ahh, it was glorious while it lasted.

Holy moley! Well done!

Today, I will write some of that book review.
I know it's a genus.

mamselle

Photos done (for now).

Downloading backup info for the next article and looking at it to see if there's really anything much new, or if I should just work on the article-as-is.

Probably a bit of both.

Student at 6:30.

You ROCK! I am so inspired! Once I am done with this summer class, my sabbatical begins! I am going to get back to the project next week since I now discovered technology I need is available in our beautiful library.

  • Referee two papers.
  • Read the book I'm reviewing.

Stretch:

  • Referee a third paper.
  • Finish fixing Neglected Paper 1
  • Fill out the publisher's survey thing for my book.

Well, I never got around to the survey thing. But I did start writing the book review, and revised and submitted three other papers (besides Neglected 1). So, not a bad month!
