Recent hire doesn't actually know the material

I've been around the block a few times in 23 years at my school. Lots of people  say lots of things about others. Maybe most have an ounce of truth. Fewer are even close to being 100% true. I  know what the OP claims, but even that is mostly second hand info. Have someone trusted confirm these observations as quickly as possible. If that is really going on, think about firing now, but definitely before next term.
