Infinitely more course stuff to do today, including but not limited to grading. So: only reading my quota.

Easily done when it's so small.

QuoteMy December goals:

  • Make progress on paper #1 with colleague. I've been dragging my feet on this, but my colleague is enthusiastic, so I'll keep chipping away at it with them.
  • Make progress on paper #2 with colleague. I need to update dataset and run some new models and robustness tests. In theory, we could submit this to a journal sooner than later, but realistically we probably won't do so this month.
  • Make progress on paper #3 with colleague. The preliminary results are promising, but I need to do do a more thoughtful assessment of the data. I'm also not sure how enthusiastic my colleague is about this one. We both will need to decide whether it is worth pursuing.
  • Make progress on new solo project. I'm in the zone on this one, so I may just spend the month obsessing over it.

I ran some numbers for paper #3 earlier this month. I'm not convinced that there is much here, but my coauthor expressed interest in moving forward, so I'll leave it to them to take the next steps. Until they do (if they do at all) I'm putting this on the back burner.

I also submitted the first paper of my new solo project. I became obsessed and worked on it day and night, putting together a paper at record speed. I think there will be more papers to come or perhaps a book and I am hoping it will be my big post-tenure project, but I'm crossing it off my list for now so that I can focus on papers 1 and 2 in the little time I have for work in what is left of December.

Just the quota. Should finish reading the book tomorrow.

Not even. Had no time for anything, not even the marking I desperately need to finish. Sigh

Read my quota for today. Grading will be done tomorrow, then I can return to important things.

December Goals

  • Finish manuscript review due mid-December
  • Submit revised report for fellowship due mid-December
  • Finish reading articles for sabbatical project
  • Set up meeting with book publisher regarding book proposal

The final report was submitted Friday and acknowledged today by our organizers. I have to edit a part of the book chapter I submitted a year ago this week so I am trying to get that done as soon as I can. I am also trying to get some preliminary analysis on my sabbatical project data done so I can submit the two conference proposals due in January. I am hopeful that by the end of the week I will have moved along more than I did last week on that.

Had an article rejected over the weekend, so updating my list.

Finishing reading that book. Maybe also working on the January blogpost.

Spent the day turning around article proofs. Tomorrow I have a meeting with a colleague to discuss a spinoff of our last article and I'll also try to make progress on something from my list. However, I don't expect to get much more done in December, which is fine.

I was feeling very sluggish today and then I "took off." I updated the part of the book chapter the publisher asked to be edited for the proof. Then I decided to turn on the jets and crank out the two conference proposals due in January. I am so relieved all of that is in already. Now I need to write my sabbatical report for the provost.

Parasaurolophus

I don't expect much progress today. Maybe some on the blog post front if I'm lucky.

The publisher approved the changes I made to the book chapter without needing anything else!
