Just a spot of translation today.
I know it's a genus.

Well, just one manuscript page left to go.

I'll finish the translating today. Then it's course prep. Ugh.

Done! Still have the prep to do, but I'm about to.

Decided to check in early because I just got the news that my R&R is now accepted. w00t!

That puts me at three articles for 2024 (and probably the first translated book), so I can slow down a bit and work on the book now. Especially since the concept is now properly proven. Where!

(Also, I'm inordinately pleased because this means I've finally cracked the top specialist journal that's rejected pretty much everything I've ever written. It's been frustrating because I have the opposite experience with the other top specialist journal.)

  • Make progress on paper #1 with colleagues - should be submittable soon, but ball is in colleague's court
  • Make progress on paper #2 with colleagues - ball is in colleague's court
  • Make progress on paper #3 with colleague - R&R, ball is in my court
  • Make progress on paper #4 - R&R
  • Make progress on book project #1
  • Make progress on book project #2 with colleague

I found a few hours today to work more on paper #3 (R&R w colleague). I reconciled some issues with the data analysis and am mostly content with it (for the moment). This week I will finish up what I'm doing on the data side, write what I did in the response letter, and send it all to my coauthor to work on their part.

I'll also work on paper #4 (solo R&R) and, depending on how things go, it is conceivable that I will send it back in by the end of this coming week.

I spent the weekend with my friend and coauthor who met me for a road trip away from our spouses. We wrote together and worked on abstracts for an upcoming conference. It was mostly for fun but we got some work done. We have a book chapter due in June to work on as well. I enjoyed my little getaway! This week I set up time to work on my book manuscript with a writing accountability buddy (who happens to be my managing editor).

Last night I came across a new book published my book publisher on a broader scope of the topic I am writing about in my book. I was able to get a digital desk copy and am reading it today. Luckily it is much broader and goes beyond the scope of my book, but it did scare the manager editor a bit when I told hu about it. I am sure the publisher will be happy if I cite and reference another of its books anyway.

Whew!

Today: gotta work on a second lecture, then I can relax into formatting my acceptance or something. Maybe having a look at my super-rejected paper so that I can send it off for the prize it won't win.

No time today for anything but finishing up my prep for tomorrow.

But I'm happy to report that translation project #2 has been approved and will shortly receive a contract! On the condition that I lengthen it by another 10k words. Which is annoying, but fine. Not as annoying as shopping it around further would have been!

Got a pleasant email from the editor just checking in.  Haven't responded yet.  Thinking about asking for a two-week extension on the due date.  I certainly granted enough extensions to my students through the years, so karma should be on my side...
Come, fill the Cup, and in the fire of Spring
Your Winter-garment of Repentance fling:
The Bird of Time has but a little way
To flutter--and the Bird is on the Wing.

I have submitted paper #4, so crossing it off my list.

We have also been offered a book contract for book project #2. So today I will work on giving the publisher some additional info they need to get the ball rolling on that and then, as time permits, I will focus on paper #3, which needs three to five more hours of my attention before I can send it to my co-author to get it temporarily off my plate.
