university not honoring contract?

Dear all,

If a term in a contract is up for renewal (teaching load reduction) - and you have met all the terms of the renewal (and the administration has admitted this!), can the university unilaterally change the terms of the renewal to less favorable terms? What recourse do I have (I am tenured if that matters)?

Thank you!

Do you have a union? Or an ombudsman? I would think that a university shouldn't do this, but the question is what happens to them if they try it. If there's no downside if they fail to honor the contract, I can well imagine them trying to get away with it, sadly.

If you don't have a union or an ombudsman, I'd try getting allies on your side, for instance your department head and your dean. The final stop would be a lawyer.
