(returned Friday night - it is Sunday , so less thatn 48 hours ago)

Classes start in a week, and I have done very little to prepare yet, so that is the problem for a few days from now.

Will visit my parents in June or July.  Not sure what My Bride's plans are, and I have not priced anything yet for air fare or car rentals.

No ohter plans at present, but that doesnt mean I wont be shopping for some!

What did you like best about going to Alaska?

This trip included Glacier Bay National Park.  ONly 2 ships a day are allowed to go in.   We saw several glaciers and even saw a bear (and seals, otters, lots of birds and glaciers!)

Except for COVID years Ive been to Alaska every year for the last 10 years.
I travel on Princess and the voyage is called Voyage of the Glaciers (Seattle/Vancouver to Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay, and Whittier/Anchorage).   Often I do the trip up and then stay on the ship for the trip back (Im not a fan of flying out of Anchorage!).

This year's trip was 17 days and included several smaller towns I ve never visited, so it was different.  It was earlier than I usually travel by about 2 weeks or so. It was cooler than I expected (in the upper 40s to mid 50s).

We got a lot closer to some of the glaciers than I have seen before only from a distance.

I highly recommend it!

Now Im back in my hometown.  It is not even 8 am and it is already over 80 degrees!

I can see why you like the contrast in weather when you go on vacation!  Seeing all that wildlife must be very cool.  Here in the UK it is about 60 degrees and breezy, so usually people go to Greece to get some warmth.

That sounds lovely.

Alaska is so fun and beautiful. Wildlife sightings, distinct topography and weather, weird daylight hours... one of my favorite places to visit.

I am teaching 1 summer class.  Need to get the house ready-painted (makes me miss the old "Joys of home ownership" thread).  Hoping to spend a lot of time in our gardens, create art, and visit family.
Could I bust my rear designing new labs? Oh sure.  Will I? *laughs in mid-career* I'll poke around at some things, but if you want more you have to pay me more

Frantically trying to write/revise a book chapter before going to the UK for two weeks next month. Teaching two online graduate courses in July-August, which is when I will be finalizing syllabi and building websites for my fall semester courses. I've also got a list of home maintenance projects that I hope to complete before September.
It's terrible writing, used to obfuscate the fact that the authors actually have nothing to say.

He gave me his phone number at the cabin and said...I only want you to call me if a friend has died or if the program is getting dismantled.  Strict instructions not to give the number out.  He was an excellent teacher and administrator, and much beloved. I think he was smart to get away from the endless demands for a while.

Sounds like you have the proper attitude for your job situation and some nice and relaxing plans.
