Quote from: Minervabird on June 20, 2025, 07:59:34 AMBook 2 with its corrections is now submitted to the press.  Yippeee! The summer beckons. I am making myself as lazy as possible.

Congratulations!

For my part, I'll send the proposal today and work on the chapter, but time is short.

Thank you.  Good luck with your chapter and proposal!

For my part, I'll send the proposal today and work on the chapter, but time is short.

Proposal sent, some chapter work done, some of conference paper, and a titch of T5.
I know it's a genus.

Not feeling it today, and time will be short, so some reading for the chapter.
I know it's a genus.

Did that.

Today, no time, but I got a new referee request which I can do very quickly, so I'll look at that.
I know it's a genus.

Sent in the report, read a torch and did a teensy bit of work on B2.

Hatchling woke up at the crack of dawn, so I won't have much time for anything today. Maybe a tiny bit of the chapter. Alas, I also had to decline an invitation for a keynote in Italy this November, because of Hatchling 2.
I know it's a genus.

Snuck in a bit of B2, and a chunk of reading for the first of the invited chapters.

Parasaurolophus

Did a bit more B2, reading for the chapter.
I know it's a genus.

Asking for some advice/guidance here.

In my field, it's pretty normal to publish in an open access, page charges kind of journal published by some of the big international publishing houses. They generally claim quick review and fairly rapid publication.  Usually about 6 months from submission to publication.

So......  I submitted a paper in January and by March 21, the handling editor had received 1 reviewer's comments and was waiting on the 2nd reviewer. Since then, bupkis.

The web site has a "email us" link. I've used it a couple of times to suggest either the editor find another reviewer or make the decision based on their own judgement and a single review. I've been polite and professional with all my communications with them. I'm an academic editor for another large online journal and have used a single review to make a decision when needed. I received a fulsome apology each time - probably from some low level minion in a back office in Asia. Last week, I found the email address for the editor in chief and contacted them. Radio silence.

So....  do I continue to wait as a result of sunk costs or do I withdraw the paper and try again elsewhere.  From what I have read on the fora, some fields may take nearly forever to complete peer review but that's much less common in mine (health related).  Am I being overly impatient?  Thoughts and suggestions?

Thanks.
Funeral by funeral, the academy advances

About 1k words on the new paper, plus a bit of reading for the chapter.
I know it's a genus.

I was an Editor in Chief for a quarterly. Email them again. I sometimes got a bit overwhelmed with getting reviewers if the journal was really busy. They are probably having a really hard time getting reviewer 2.

Parasaurolophus

I made good progress on the paper yesterday, so I'll do more today. If it's roughly ship-shape by the time Hatchling 2 hatches, then it'll help buy me some publication breathing room for the next while. ('course, the books and translations do that, too). But I like for the pipeline to be full, and who knows about the two chapters I have to write.

Will also read for the chapter.
