It was in the low 90s earlier this morning, with the real feel temp at 100.

Much cooler tomorrow and the day after. I'm so glad I'm not teaching this summer.

It's been so hot that the roads are buckling in:

Learned this afternoon that a local church will be offering our first local cooling center next week.  Up to now, we've sort of been it, for those who thought to use us.  We're helping get the word out about the church's cooling center, and they're letting people know that they're welcome here when the church's center isn't open.

I was also relieved to learn this week that the regional agency that offers utility bill assistance during summer and winter will be able to have their scheduled assistance sign-ups here at the library, starting next week.  I had feared that they might have lost their funding.  Looks they still have it for at least this season.  People certainly need it.  Our staff is able to help patrons look up and print documentation to prove their eligibility for the program, so it makes sense to have the sign-up sessions hosted here.
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and self-control.  And those who belong to Christ have crucified the old nature and its desires.  If we live in the Spirit, let us then walk in the Spirit.

That's a wonderful service - services! - that your place offers your community!

We got a break from the heat yesterday. Now it's back.

Apl68, glad a local church is opening its doors to be a cooling center!

It was HOT all the way through Wednesday night, and then cooled off on Thursday. Friday's temperatures were much lower than the forecast--we were wearing jackets in the evening--, and this morning was relatively cool as well despite the forecast for temperatures in the high eighties. Fortunately, I could go on the bird walk because the temperature this morning was in the upper seventies, but an hour and a half into the walk, it started to get muggy, warmer, and also sunny.
