Just heard it confirmed (I'd heard the rumour a while ago) that a friendly acquaintance has snagged a mid-career move to one of the big research universities in my city!

Our subfield is pretty tightly knit, and small in the sense that it hardly exists at research universities on this continent. But her arrival here means that there are now five of us in the vicinity (six if you count someone whose orbit occasionally takes him into our zone), two of them titans of the subfield. Our city is now a real powerhouse!
I know it's a genus.

OOhhh, time to start a twice-a-year party for your subfield!

We have one in one of the areas I work on and it's lovely...tea, cookies, and a cracking good paper every fall and spring...and a  barbecue in the summer.

Oh yes, I quite like the sound of that!
I know it's a genus.

I've passed my first year's probation. One more to go (not that I get anything special for passing the probationary period).
I know it's a genus.

And you will cry out on that day because of the king you have chosen for yourselves, and the Lord will not hear you on that day.

Congrats !  I hope passing the probationary period includes at least some job security.

I completed an R&R and sent it back to the journal.

We are fostering a kitten for ~ two weeks.
It's terrible writing, used to obfuscate the fact that the authors actually have nothing to say.

Join us on the cat thread!

Kitties...aww...

This paper I'm refereeing is just great.

I moved three hydrangea bushes and one rose bush to other locations in the yard, and so far they all look ok despite the ~ 95 degree temperatures.

A student's dissertation defense that went very well, and whose work is publishable
Got the campsites we wanted for our vacation
Cucumbers finally producing

I need more non-Zoom positivity!

-My article at really good journal that went through 3! rounds of review and an accept with changes that felt like 4 is finally in print. This also means I'm good for the scholarship part of my tenure bid
-I actually slept through the night in my own bed twice last week. I feel like a new person (of course, last night was awful, so we'll see if its a chimera...).

There have been a lot of beautiful sunsets recently.

Finally got an acceptance for an R&R I resubmitted in February. Took almost twice as long as the initial verdict.

Weirdly, it's a conditional acceptance with no conditions. But shrug, I'll take it! That's number seven for 2020. With any luck, a couple more might be on their way, too.
I know it's a genus.

Congratulations, Parasaurolophus! What fabulous news!

I had delicious sushi for dinner, and I have found a new way to light the room I am in that makes everything feel very cozy. Small bits of positivity in the middle of a decidedly unpositive time.
