Did another media interview as an expert on my topic this morning. Seems like I am developing strong ties with some journalists, because the same ones keep contacting me anytime my research topic pops up in the news.

So you've become a recognized expert in the media?  Wow!  Congratulations!  Please remember always to use your powers only for good.

Thanks!

I always get nervous when I get media requests, but I usually never turn them down. When it's with journalists I am already familiar with, it's more reassuring. I've been told to see it as I am doing a good job, but it's a huuuuuge responsability and I definetly feel some pressure. But I am always proud when I see the end result, although I am constantly looking for ways to get bette at this.

I stay within my area of expertise, and when I do not know something, I just say that I am not in a position to answer that question, and it's not the end of the world. I prefer admitting I don't know something rather than saying BS lol

You're never going to have a career in politics with that attitude.
It takes so little to be above average.

Félicitations!

But... what about injecting it?

For my part, I've now moved a step up the salary scale for the first time, which translates to a $2900 raise for every full load I get (assuming I ever have another full load in the aftermath of this crisis). So that's nice! I should be moving up at least one step, and probably a couple, at the end of the fall semester, too. So that's even more exciting. But after that, I'm stuck moving up the ladder very, very slowly.
I know it's a genus.

Hehe, I was refering to Trump's "advice" from the other day :P

Congrats for your raise!

- Did another media interview yesterday. Felt anxious about it, but someone sponaneously contacted me to tell me they've heard me and that I had done an excellent job.
- I almost completed my reading list for the first question of my comprehensive exam. I have to cut down a few references because I have a bit more than the maximum required, but by reading all of these abstracts, it'll help me to make a decision. I'm doing the list for the second question tomorrow.
- I found an online writing community of graduate students. :)

A big, high-ranking trade press contacted me today to put together a shortish volume for a new series they want to launch. I imagine it's hard to overestimate the work involved, but the basic structure they have in mind is simple enough to execute. It would be more of a teaching and research supplement, so not much in the way of original thought required (whew!), just snazzy description and useful reading lists. Seems like the sort of thing that easily lends itself to small daily writing chunks, so I think I'll do it.

Apparently a friendly acquaintance recommended me for the project, so that's especially exciting. The network's at work!

Wow! I received the comments on my final paper. I got a A+. Additionnally, the prof invites me to speak about my research to her next cohort because she finds me inspiring.

I did not expect that. I was a little nervous about this paper because it was worth half of my grade for this course. But I put sooo much work and effort into it, and it paid off.

I got the fellowship I have applied for.

For my part, I just got the most glowing referee report I've ever had. Wow: R2 sure liked my paper!

Congratulations on the fellowship!
And you will cry out on that day because of the king you have chosen for yourselves, and the Lord will not hear you on that day.

Wahoo Redux

Come, fill the Cup, and in the fire of Spring
Your Winter-garment of Repentance fling:
The Bird of Time has but a little way
To flutter--and the Bird is on the Wing.
