Hmmm....interesting, not sure my phone has that, but I'll check it out.

(Except it's going to go away from the QWERTY keyboard, right? I have to be really in the groove to use that keyboard....!)

But--Thanks!

It sounds like you don't have an iphone? Because if you do you can also easily do diacriticals by holding down the letter and selecting the form/accent mark you want. Maybe android has this, too?

It works the same way on Android. You can go into settings > system > languages and enable additional languages. I have two languages enabled and the QWERTY keyboard stays the same unless I want to change it. I can switch keyboards by holding down the space bar, but I always stick with QWERTY. I can add accents by holding down the letter and selecting the appropriate form. Swype often guesses the word correctly and applies the accent automatically. The one quirk is that when I am composing something in English, swype will sometimes insert a word in the other language, but that happens infrequently enough that I find it more amusing than annoying.

Yes! And this is much easier to figure out than when you have accidentally used the wrong keyboard and the other person gets a message that might as well be in binary.
