Hi everyone,
Quick question! I'm trying to find more information about the different rounds in the Fulbright scholar application. I know that there is the initial peer review, then the U.S. and host country nomination, ending with the Commission. I have found a good amount of information about general numbers of rejections and acceptances, but I'm having a hard time finding out the percentage of people who get through the first round (peer review nomination) but not the second round (U.S./host country selection of nominees).
Does anybody have any past experiences or resources with this information they could share?
Much appreciated!

A lot rides on whether you proposed work in France or, say, Lichtenstein.

Different countries have different numbers of grants vs. applicants....Frances gets far too many applicants for the number of awards possible; Lichtenstein may have 2 openings and 1 applicant (all figures estimated here).

So, some may be noted sooner as declined than others...sometimes they urge you to see if you can re-house your work elsewhere and propose in the next cycle.

My experience was as a student, and the above was what they told me, but it's consistent with what I've learned since from tenured friends applying as supported scholars from within their employing school

That may not help with absolute timing expectations.

But nothing else might, either..too many moving parts...

Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

Reprove not a scorner, lest they hate thee: rebuke the wise, and they will love thee.

Give instruction to the wise, and they will be yet wiser: teach the just, and they will increase in learning.

There's this but most of the people who post on it are students:

I've passed the peer review four times now (over the past 8 years to three different programs) for Scholar teaching/research and research grants and have not been selected. So that's my n of 1 for you!  My programs always announce in mid-April.

There was some old information on the iie website about numbers of applicants in the previous years vs. number of awards but you have to really dig for it and not sure I could find it again.

Good luck!

Thanks for sharing the document on notifications, no1capybara. I am also waiting for Fulbright. I received my notification of initial peer review approval in early December, and I am trying to be patient with waiting for the final notification. I am planning to bring my partner + 2 kids with me, so I'd like to start planning for all of us. Most others have said they heard in April, but some in May or June. Planning my research projects, teaching, etc., for next year is very complicated as well. Best wishes on your application, TtheTeacher!
